Not all wood floors are the same. We at Aspen deal with manufacturers that have engaged themselves to work with responsible development practices. Look for these symbols on our sample panels.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an ecolabel, assuring that a product made from wood (like furniture) has respected all the procedures assuring the durable forest management. He FSC logo is used after third party certification under the approval of one ob he biggest nongovernmental organizations in the world (WWF and Greenpeace). This certification is the only one recognized by the LEED program and qualifies for a point in the material and resources section.
The SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) label is the sign proving that the wood bought by the manufacturer comes from well managed forests. This ecolabel is better known in the USA than PEFC or FSC. The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is a North American ‘forest certification standard’ and program of SFI Inc., a non-profit organization. The Sustainable Forestry Initiative is the world’s largest single forest certification standard by area. The SFI is headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario Canada and Washington D.C. USA
PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is the European norm that gave the basis to the conception of the SFI certification. Its principles are the same, it is the sign proving that the wood bought by the supplier comes from well managed forests. This ecolabel is the one used in Europe.
